The "Poets" society was
formed in 2004, and was started by Barkway Park Golf Club members
in order to have some fun golf at different courses. We usually
meet up four times a year, and usually the meets up are on a
Friday, hence the name P.... off early, tomorrow is
Saturday!
In 2007 the 4 venues where
Brookmans Park in April, selected as a tribute to a dear friend to
all at Barkway, Pete Smalley, then we played Letchworth. The next venue
was switched from "The Hertfordshire" to Whitehills, and
that
was played in October. Then the last meet up was at Barkway, in
December for the Christmas comp. I know it's not a different course,
but it works out a handy venue for the final meet up of the year,
which is usually followed up with an evening at a local venue to
get into the Christmas SPIRIT! This might not always be the
selected last venue, it depends on the Poet laureate's choice of
venue.
Each year there is a new captain,
and they are called the Poet Laureate. The Laureate do the presentation at
the end of each meet up, and are also expected to contribute a
poem. They are also in charge of selecting the Summer Venue, which are then passed on to Greg Smith (Tarzan) who then
books the venues.
This year Mike Rogers (Jolly) is to be our
laureate, past captains to date have been:
2004 John Pickin (Cotton)
2005 Kevin Streeting (Kaos)
2006 Jamie Bates (Prozac)
2007 Andrew Rusbridge (Rusty)
This society is open to
